Process simulation for the recovery and reuse of SF6 from aged gas mixtures in high-voltage electrical apparatus.

Hybrid cryogenic and membrane separation

A staged route in which membrane units carry the bulk enrichment and a cryogenic stage takes the mixture to reusable purity — sized in simulation to find where the duty is best spent.

Aged gas mixtures in service

Recovered gas is never the gas in the datasheet. Composition, dilution and decomposition products all move the separation problem, so the feed is treated as a range rather than a point.

Energy and emissions accounting

Recovery is only worth doing if the balance holds. Life cycle assessment sets the recovered gas against the alternatives of destruction and of manufacturing it new.
